LG G3 review

The LG G3 is awesome! I already mentioned this in my hands-on video and most recent podcast, but after using it for an entire month, I still feel the same way. It’s definitely one of the best phones available today.

In a nutshell, the quad-HD (2560×1440 pixel) display — while not perfect —  is a pleasure to look at, battery life is half decent, and the laser AF system is super fast and accurate, even in low light. My only gripe is with the camera app, which lacks even basic manual settings, making it difficult to control exposure. Here’s my video review

tnkgrl Mobile podcast – #105

The one and only Nicole Scott joined me all the way from Taipei for episode #105 (1 hour 6 min) of my podcast. We talked about a whole bunch of handsets — like the excellent LG G3 and G Pro 2, the Asus PadFone X phone/tablet/laptop, and the long awaited Amazon Fire Phone.

Additional topics include the HTC One (M8) camera, washing the Samsung Galaxy S5, Computex 2014, 4K video recording, and T-Mobile’s Uncarrier 5/6 event… Have fun!

Apologies for the delay in posting the audio version — we experienced some issues while recording which slowed down the editing process.

Hands-on with the LG G3

I just got a chance to play with the LG G3 at the satellite launch event here in San Francisco. Wow! This is one impressive handset… Last year’s G2 was a solid phone, but this year’s G3 looks to be even better. The big news are the quad-HD (2560×1440 pixel) 5.5-inch display and the laser AF system on the OIS-equipped 13MP camera. Check out my hands-on video and matching pictures.

HTC One mini 2 video review

After spending 10 days with the HTC One mini 2, I almost prefer it over the HTC One (M8). This is an excellent compact phone that feels great in hand and provides solid performance and battery life. It fixes most of the shortcomings of last year’s model (like NFC) and even beats the M8 in some areas (camera resolution). Here’s my video review.

Update: Here are camera samples, as promised.
