Unboxing the Google Nexus S, part 1

It’s here! The Google Nexus S has landed. First impressions? I don’t have much to add to what’s already been said.

Surprisingly, this phone feels better put together than the other Galaxy S devices. It’s definitely an improvement over the Nexus One, and a worthy successor. Read on…

Samsung Galaxy S camera shootout

4 carriers, 4 phones, 4 variations, 4 cameras!

Samsung’s Galaxy S for the US market – the Vibrant (T-Mobile), Captivate (AT&T), Epic 4G (Sprint), and Fascinate (Verizon) – share the same core specs, but diverge in appearance and implementation.

How do these similarities and differences affect camera performance and user experience? Find out after the break…

Apple iPhone 4 vs. Motorola Droid X camera

iPhone 4 sample pictures (slide show):

Droid X sample pictures (slide show):

Arguably, the Apple iPhone 4 and Motorola Droid X are the current flagship smartphones for AT&T and Verizon. Both are multimedia powerhouses, and feature impressive cameras, at least on paper!

I’ve been playing with the cameras on both devices extensively for almost 3 months, and the resulting pictures and videos are indeed excellent, yet there are pros and cons to each phone. More after the break…

Unboxing the Samsung Fascinate, part 1

Last week Verizon sent me a Samsung Fascinate review unit, thus rounding up the US launch of the Galaxy S!

The Fascinate looks similar the Vibrant, but with CDMA instead of GSM, and an LED flash. Unlike the Epic 4G, there’s no landscape keyboard, but like the Captivate, it’s quite thin and light…

Take a look at my unboxing video and my first power on video (after the break).

Burning Man goodness, and more

So I’m back from 10 days in the desert, playing and working, and I snapped a whole bunch of pictures, as usual (slide show)…

I used phone cameras for all shots, including the Samsung Memoir, the Samsung Epic 4G, and the Apple iPhone 4, with no post-processing!

While I was away, Apple launched the new iPod nano, and I received Samsung Fascinate and Motorola Charm review units (videos).

In the next few weeks. I will be attending Mobilize and CTIA here in San Francisco, so ping me if you also plan to go :)

Unboxing the Samsung Epic 4G, part 1

It’s here – the Samsung Epic 4G, the most feature-packed Galaxy S phone yet!

First impressions? As I mentioned yesterday:

Wow… The Epic 4G is something else! I think it’s even better than the EVO 4G – love the dedicated cam key, and the keyboard is ├╝ber fab :)

Take the Captivate or Vibrant, replace GSM with CDMA, add 4G (WiMax), a landscape keyboard, a front-facing camera, a notification light, a shutter button, and an LED flash – that’s the Epic 4G.

Check out my unboxing video and jump to my first power on video below – it’s all quite epic :)
