Best kept secret
It’s a well known fact that there are some very cool phones available in Asia, especially in Japan and Korea… But there are also some great devices available in China and Thailand. Unfortunately most Japanese and Korean phones don’t use GSM – but Chinese and Thai devices do, and some are even tri-band, making them akin to a best kept secret – rare here, feature packed, yet reasonably priced and compatible with North American carriers!
The i-mobile 902 is a tri-band GSM phone manufactured by Taiwanese giant Asus for the Thai market. At first glance this device is very similar to the Sony Ericsson K750i, but that’s where the similarities end – instead of the K750i’s pretty decent 2 megapixel CMOS camera with auto-focus, macro and LED flash, the 902 features a very good 5 megapixel CCD camera (supplied by Sony) with auto-focus, macro and xenon flash. Furthermore, it’s capable of recording video at 30 fps with a resolution of 640×480 pixels (DVD quality).
While being only tri-band and missing EDGE, this device offers a decent set of modern features, including a QVGA display, audio/video player, Bluetooth, and a microSD card slot – but by most accounts, the camera on this phone may just be the best currently available on a GSM device, especially when it comes to low-light performance! Since I really like camera phones, I’ve purchased an i-mobile 902 while I’m waiting for the Nokia N95 to be released, and I’ll be putting it to the test…
I am looking forward to seeing your review of this phone. Tnkgrl, even though this phone doesnt have EDGE, please try to review the browser. Every phone I think about is first compared to the Symbiam browser.
Tnkgrl, one more thing: “You are awesome”.
I just got this phone… I have to say, your flickr photo gallery was what persuaded me to click the buy button. And it’s awesome… I love it.
disappointed and annoyed.
the phone is 3 months old, and the battery life is LESS than 15 minutes without being on the charger.
Great phone functions. Good camera. just terrible battery.
and you can get NO AFTER SALE SERVICE WITHOUT BEING PERSONALLY IN THAILAND!!!!
big problem when I live in Australia.
I even offered to pay for a new battery to be sent, and I was told “NO you will need to come to Thailand”.
Certainly not something I would expect… but then again…..
With no Phone, I’ve had no choice to go to a new Nokia N95…
TYPICAL Nokia…. absolutely brilliant.
No more buying phones that I can’t get serviced and claim warranty when things go wrong.
My i-mobile 902’s battery is working great with hours of talk time and several days standby time… Obviously this device is not supported outside of Thailand so just get a new battery on eBay!
may be too late but still wondering, where are you bough this i-mobile 902?
As I knew the i-902 is made by Cheng Uei from Taiwan and she loss huge amount of money during this i-902 order by Samart.
btw, I been here cause the EEEPC, nice to meet you.
What’s the quality like?
When can i buy a battery for i-mobile 902 ?

I just bought it from http://www.imobilecellphones.com. The main reason is the photo that I saw on the website that took by this phone. I Love it very much!! The picture is amazing.
