CTIA: Samsung i8910 (Omnia HD) hands on
During CTIA I visited the Symbian and Samsung booths and played with the Samsung i8910 (Omnia HD)… Here are my pictures!
The verdict? I’m sooo madly in love with this device :)
So far, it’s the only Symbian touch phone with a capacitive touchscreen and an 8 megapixel camera. In fact, it uses the same excellent sensor and optics as the Samsung T929 (Memoir). Strangely, the electrically activated lens cover and the xenon flash are missing (replaced with an LED flash), but it’s capable of HD video recording (720p).
Some will lament the lack of physical keyboard, but this makes the Omnia HD really thin. I’m happy with a virtual keyboard, especially on a device with a capacitive touchscreen. Of course, the alternative is the Nokia N97, which features a physical keyboard and a very responsive resistive touchscreen.
Bottom line: the Omnia HD is full of goodness! I can’t wait for it to be released…
the screen looks great on that pictures but led flash is a no go for me.
@saperalot I’d have preferred a xenon flash as well, but this device is being pushed for its HD video recording capability – LEDs work a lot better for video recording :)
Personally, I rarely use the flash (xenon or LED) on any of my cameraphones, so it’s a minor problem. I prefer shooting in low light – the Omnia HD features an excellent sensor and optics and handles low light quite well.
Now that’s an all-in-one device :)
Fun fact: The OmniaHD has an internal compass too. :) It didn’t seem like you and Matt knew about that in twt9.
